Rina Sawayama (born August 16, 1990) was born in Niigata, Japan. She is a Japanese-British singer, actress and model. she relocated to London with her parents when she was just five years old. In 2017, Sawayama independently released her debut extended play titled "Rina." However, it was her signing to Dirty Hit in 2020 that propelled her into the spotlight, leading to the release of her critically acclaimed debut studio album, "Sawayama."

She has captivated audiences worldwide with her musical versatility and earned the reputation of being a "musical chameleon". Continuing her success, Sawayama released her second studio album, "Hold the Girl," on 16 September 2022. This album further showcased her growth and artistic evolution. In a 2021 interview with Billboard, Sawayama revealed that she used only her first name at the time because her last name was "an inconvenience."

In June 2015, Sawayama collaborated with director Arvida Byström to create a captivating music video for her song "Tunnel Vision." The following year, she released the single "Where U Are" along with a visually stunning music video co-directed by Alessandra Kurr.
