John Roger Stephens (born December 28, 1978) was born in Springfield, Ohio, United States. He is an American musician, actor, and producer. He is professionally known as John Legend. He initially started his musical career as a behind-the-scenes pianist, working with notable artists like Lauryn Hill and Jay-Z.

He eventually signed with Kanye West's GOOD Music label and released his debut album "Get Lifted" in 2004, which quickly climbed to the top ten on the Billboard 200 chart and received double-platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

At the 48th Annual Grammy Awards, Legend received nine nominations, including Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for his hit single "Ordinary People", which he won. He also received awards for Best New Artist and Best R&B Album for "Get Lifted". He followed up with his second album "Once Again" in 2006, which produced the popular single "Save Room" and earned a spot in the top ten of the Billboard 200 chart.
