296 French Rapper

Issa Lorenzo Diakhaté (born June 6, 1992) was born in San Les Lilas, Seine-Saint-Denis, France. He is a French rapper, singer-songwriter, and record producer. He is professionally known as Freeze Corleone. He gained prominence as the founder of the collective 667 and CFR, alongside Norsacce and Osirus Jack. Notably, he has also spent periods of his life in Canada and currently resides in Dakar, Senegal.

His debut studio album, "LMF (La Menace Fantôme)," was released on September 11, 2020. This album swiftly climbed to the second position on the French charts and earned a gold certification within just three weeks of its release. However, controversy arose due to alleged antisemitic content within his lyrics, leading to condemnation from the International League Against Racism and Anti-Semitism. Following a report by Frédéric Potier, the inter-ministerial delegate for combating racism, the Paris public prosecutor initiated an investigation into possible charges of provocation to racial hatred and racist insults in Freeze Corleone's songs and videos. Consequently, Universal Music severed ties with the artist on September 18, 2020.

Despite these challenges, Freeze Corleone's album "LMF" continued to gain recognition, achieving platinum certification in May 2021 and later attaining double platinum status in March 2022. Amidst ongoing controversies, a concert scheduled for December 2022 in Montreal was canceled, reportedly due to pressure from the B'nai Brith organization, who deemed his lyrics antisemitic.

In February 2023, The New York Times unveiled a secretive signing of Freeze Corleone under BMG Rights Management, even after the prior uproar over "LMF." The signing occurred without explicit mention on his records. Although BMG initially intended to release Freeze Corleone's album "Riyad Sadio," they later canceled the contract.

Subsequently, a concert set for Rennes on February 28, 2023, faced a municipal ban due to concerns about provocative and hateful lyrics. Freeze Corleone countered by sharing a speech by Louis Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam, in which he denied antisemitism. On March 11, 2023, Freeze Corleone successfully suspended the municipal decree, leading to municipal authorities planning an appeal with the Conseil d'État.

Despite the challenges and controversies surrounding him, Freeze Corleone's impact on the French music scene remains significant, marked by both critical acclaim and societal debate.
