BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, emerged onto the South Korean music scene in 2010 as a hip-hop group under Big Hit Entertainment. Comprising members Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, they have evolved their musical style over the years, seamlessly incorporating various genres into their repertoire. Beyond their catchy tunes, BTS has set themselves apart by delving into profound themes in their lyrics, addressing mental health, the challenges faced by youth, self-love, individualism, and the complexities of fame.

Their journey began in 2013 with the release of the single album "2 Cool 4 Skool," and they swiftly gained momentum with subsequent Korean and Japanese-language studio albums. The turning point came with their second Korean studio album, "Wings" (2016), which marked their first million-selling record in South Korea. By 2017, BTS had transcended global boundaries, making history by earning a Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for "Mic Drop" and topping the Billboard 200 with "Love Yourself: Tear" (2018).

In a remarkable feat reminiscent of the Beatles, BTS achieved four US number-one albums in under two years. Their singles, including "Dynamite," "Savage Love," "Life Goes On," "Butter," and "Permission to Dance," propelled them to become the fastest act to secure four US number-one singles since Justin Timberlake in 2006.

As of 2023, BTS stands as the best-selling musical act in South Korean history, having sold over 40 million albums. "Map of the Soul: 7" (2020) is South Korea's fourth best-selling album, with BTS becoming the first non-English-speaking and Asian act to sell out iconic venues like Wembley Stadium and the Rose Bowl during their Love Yourself World Tour in 2019. Recognized by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) as the Global Recording Artist of the Year for 2020 and 2021, BTS's impact extends beyond music, with engagements at the United Nations and a partnership with UNICEF for the Love Myself anti-violence campaign.

On June 14, 2022, BTS announced a temporary hiatus to fulfill their 18-month mandatory South Korean military service, with plans for a reunion in 2025. Jin, the oldest member, initiated the enlistment on December 13, 2022, followed by the remaining members in 2023.
