"Matthew Tyler Musto" (born November 27, 1990) was born in Daytona Beach, Florida, United States. He is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is professionally known as Blackbear. Musto's journey into music began early, influenced by iconic rock bands like blink-182 and New Found Glory during his childhood. His passion for music led him to learn guitar and piano, skills that would later shape his distinctive sound.

Before embarking on a solo career, Musto fronted the Florida-based punk band Polaroid. However, his trajectory shifted when his band was signed by Leakmob Records, prompting him to drop out of high school to pursue music full-time. Initially recording under the name Mat Musto, he collaborated with producer jerry_good and the production duo A-Rex, gradually paving the way for his transition to the moniker Blackbear.
