Arch Enemy is a well-known Swedish melodic death metal band, formed in 1995 in Halmstad. It began as a supergroup, meaning its members came from different established bands like Carcass, Armageddon, Carnage, and more. The band was founded by Michael Amott, who was the guitarist for Carcass, along with Johan Liiva from the death metal band Carnage. They created a powerful blend of aggressive metal with melodic elements.

The band has been very productive, releasing eleven studio albums, three live albums, three video albums, and four EPs over the years. Arch Enemy was originally led by Johan Liiva as the vocalist. However, in 2000, German singer Angela Gossow replaced Liiva as the frontwoman. Gossow brought a strong presence to the band, making Arch Enemy more popular with fans and critics alike. She became one of the few female vocalists in extreme metal, making her role even more significant.

In 2014, Gossow stepped down from her position as the lead singer and took on the role of the band’s manager. She was replaced by Alissa White-Gluz, a Canadian vocalist who had previously fronted the band The Agonist. White-Gluz has continued to carry the band forward with her powerful voice and stage presence.

Arch Enemy’s music often touches on themes of personal struggle, society, and rebellion. They are considered pioneers in the melodic death metal genre and have a loyal fanbase around the world. Their most popular albums include Wages of Sin (2001), Doomsday Machine (2005), and Will to Power (2017), which all showcase their evolution as a band.
