Stranger In The Alps (2017) Lyrics – Phoebe Bridgers

English 142 September 22, 2017

"Stranger in the Alps" marked the impressive debut studio album of the talented American singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers, released by the Dead Oceans label on September 22, 2017. The album's production was handled by a pair of highly respected names in the music industry, namely Tony Berg and Ethan Gruska. Bridgers managed to carve out time in between her busy touring schedule in 2016 to work on recording the album at Berg's studio located in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles.

The album's rather intriguing title is actually a reference to a modified line from the popular film "The Big Lebowski," where Walter Sobchak's memorable exclamation "Do you see what happens when you fuck a stranger in the ass?" was changed in the edited-for-TV version to "Do you see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps?" This clever nod to the film's censorship serves as a testament to Bridgers' wry sense of humor.

Before the release of "Stranger in the Alps," Bridgers inked a deal with the Dead Oceans label in June of 2017, setting the stage for her album to drop later that year. The album's reception was largely positive, with many critics praising Bridgers' raw, emotive songwriting and delicate, haunting melodies.

To celebrate the fifth anniversary of the album's release, a limited edition vinyl pressing was issued on September 22, 2022, featuring a striking galaxy color design. Bridgers' debut album has proven to be a powerful introduction to her unique artistic vision, paving the way for her to establish herself as one of the most captivating singer-songwriters in recent years.
